I am tired and tranquil
The mysterious night awaits
My dreams so far undreamed
Have a bright and watchful eye;
Here is where I'll lie,
On a hill beneath the sky
I muse; the stars overhead
Would make a better bed,
If they'd receive me up in arm
With a fiery golden charm,
And allow me lie there still
Above my little hill,
And above the sleep that tends
My family and friends.
Safe within their keep
I would lie in peaceful sleep.
And as time below me brings
One thousand terrible things,
And death quietly lays hold,
Of both the young and old,
I'd lie in dreamless sleep;
As in a graveyard burried deep
And my only fear to test
Would be to fall from Heaven's nest.
