"Poison in the Well"

How can I speak the truth when speaking from the heart
How can I die clean, I was stabbed in the dark
The worse it gets, the more I would to leave
The more I withdraw the less I would believe.

Build your cities, then tear them down again
The wheels roll backwards in the minds of men
It will be a sad day when all things turn to dust
This cup was offered me, and I'll drink as I must.

O come closer, step into the light
I love my little girl, but the devil's still in sight
Something went wrong about a year ago
We think we have the point, but first we've got to know.

The drinks got switched, now I dig my own wells
The signs rest beside me, the poison alone tells
There's something less strange about breaking their rules
O what profanation, both the wise men and the fools!
